Parish Helpers Party - Sunday 31st January

Preparing for Helpers Party

The helpers party takes place on Sunday 31st January.

This, now well established annual event, is organised by the Clergy and Parish Pastoral Council to thank all those who assist in the parish.

Preparations began today (Saturday 30th) with all hands to the peelers and chopping boards.

If you are attending, don't forget your decorated 'secular' headgear for the competition. Just make it clear - secular, in this instance, means 'borrowing' the Bishop's Mitre is not allowed!

Visit of the Relics of St. Therese 2009

St. Therese and the Cathedral

Many thanks to all who supported the visit of the Relics of St Therese.

This was possibily the most significant event in the history of the Cathedral.

It took 12 months of preparation and planning, but it was certainly all worthwhile. Our task was to enable as many people as possible to be present and venerate the relics. How many? Who knows! 4,000, 5,000 or more! Individuals, parish schools, churches, families all came along. All were impressed by the quiet reverence and devotion and many expressed thanks for the organisation. Monsignor Lagoutte from Lisieux gave us a gift of a relic of St Therese's parents and was delighted with what he saw and heard.

We would like to thank all for the tremendous work contributed by all involved in preparing our church. The organising committee, Bernard and Tim who coordinated the event, Fr Geoffrey and Simon for preparing the liturgies and the booklets, the concelebrating Priests and Deacons, the servers and the diocesan choir. Fr David Cain and his involvement with the schools, Fr Joe Wheat and the youth vigil, the stewards, the cleaners, the flower ladies, the ladies for the ongoing refreshments including bacon sandwiches and the splendidly stocked repository, which all sold out!

It worries us that Fr Robbie enjoyed his portrayal of the 'Pope' too much!

For photographs of the event please see our special St.Therese page and photo galleries.
