Securing the future of Cathedral Music
We are delighted to announce that Nottingham Cathedral has received a grant of £14,000 over two years from the UK's Cathedral Music Trust.
Our choir's repertoire is rooted in the Catholic tradition of plainchant and polyphony but also embraces music from across the world and throughout the ages. Alongside our young choristers, the Cathedral Choir includes four professional lay clerks and four choral scholars drawn from our city's universities.
Maintaining this rich choral tradition requires significant financial support, and our Music Fund is running down. Earlier this year, therefore, we launched the Cathedral's Guild of Saint Cecilia - a community of people committed to supporting our music-making through regular giving. The Cathedral Music Trust's generous grant gives us two precious years in which to grow our own fundraising to the level needed to sustain the Cathedral Choir. It is a wonderful national vote of confidence in our work, but it does not meet the challenge by itself: We now invite people to become part of our music's future by joining the Guild of Saint Cecilia. This regular support will help preserve and develop our choral tradition for generations to come.
